2010 Starts with a bang!

Did 2010 start off with a bang? Well, yes is did! On the 1st, I was able to watch the University of Oregon Ducks smell the roses, sadly they couldn't pick them but there's always next year! GO DUCKS!

On the 2nd, I attended Ariels coronation in Hillsboro. She went with a western theme that simply complimented her classic look and personality. The evening started off with Ariel and her father serenade her guests as they all ate bowls of chili and pulled pork sandwiches. I had no idea she could sing! Everyone knows how talented she was in the arena and now I know that she is musically talented. What a gal! Jackie Gibson was the emcee for the evening. She kept with the same grace that she held throughout her year and kept the audiance entertained when normal coronation transitions were in process.

The evening ended with a hilarious rendition of a Miss Rodeo Oregon pageant, Mr. Teen Rodeo Oregon pageant. The guys had to dance, answer a impromtu question, and get as much money as they could into their cowboy hats. The guys were such good sports and it is a tradition that I think will carry on in many Oregon pageant coronations to come.

This last weekend, January 9th, was Savanna and the Columbia County court coronation. This was held in St. Helens. One disclaimer I have about getting to St. Helens is that mapquest is wrong when it comes to the directions to the fairgrounds! After a fun drive with my best friend, Jordan, I made it to the coronation with plenty of time to spare. The room was decorated with lights and good spirit. A feast of burgers and hotdogs were served to hungry guests after everyone had taken a long look at all the auctions items.

The night started off with the Mr. Columbia County pageant. I believe that the contestants were fathers; which made for a better show! The guys modeled, rode stick horses in a mock horsemanship pattern and answered impromptu questions.  The night was emcee'd by the wonderful Mackenzie Carr and Shalania Joiner. Both ladies were professional in leading the coronation through the evening. The evening ended with the Columbia County court being crowned and announced at the 2010 titleholders.

When they had said their gracious thank you's and soaked in the moment, Savanna was crowned the 2010 titleholder. It was a great night and was a success for all the people involved. In ending I would personally like to thank all the people who helped in both coronations. I am learning that it is a huge feat upon itself. If we didn't have volunteers like each and every coronation does, I know that they wouldn't be as successful as they have been in the past and will be in the future.

For now... Live. Love. Rodeo!
