Kobus, the movie horse and dancing fun.

I am pleased to report that May has started off being sunny and beautiful! It is so beautiful here in Roseburg that I was able to sit outside and get a little sun. It is definitely welcome and well deserved especially since when I returned to Oregon from being in Nevada, it was raining. Go figure!

The weekend after I returned home I was invited to the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo Queen coronation in Joseph, Oregon. As you know, I live in southern Oregon and Joseph is on the complete opposite side of the state! On April 17th my mother and I loaded her now truck and made the 10 hour drive to the beautiful picturesque town of Joseph. It was such a nice drive… I slept the entire way! Ha ha ha! Joseph is one of those places that automatically relax you when you drive down the street lightless street. My mother and I stayed in the Indian Lodge. This was the cutest little place I have ever stayed in. That evening I attended the coronation. Now this wasn’t a normal coronation, this was an event that the entire town attended! There were so many people there that they had to make room for more people! This event is like the Molalla coronation; the 2010 queen was announced at the end of the evening, before the new girl was crowned all three candidates modeled the outfits that they will be wearing for the year. The clothes are so cute! Finally the time came for the crowning of the new queen! Miss Alex McCadden was appointed the 2010 Chief Joseph Days Rodeo Queen! Emily Howerton and Jesse Kohlhepp will also be serving on the court. I am so excited to be traveling with each of them this year. I am even more excited to have the chance to attend the rodeo, which is something I haven’t done before. I thank all the people who made the night run as smoothly as it did. Everyone had a great time and it was an evening that I will definitely not forget!

The next weekend my father and I packed up the flower pack and headed to The Dalles for the Cherry Festival Parade. I am proud to announce that I have the prestigious honor of riding a Friesian in the Rose Festival Parade this year. I entered into the parade to support the events in Oregon and to make sure that my mighty steed was ok with the flower pack and noise that usually accompanies a parade. This gentle giants name is Kobus; he is 16.2 hands with a flowing black mane and tail. His owner Elaina used him as a dressage and movie horse! He has been in Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp, The Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderes and Tall Tale with the late Patrick Swaze. The tricks this horse knows is pretty impressive. Now that you know all about him I have to tell you about this parade! It was awesome! I was one of the last horses and caught the last little bit of sun that The Dalles offered. The parade was judged and the Fort Dalles Rider representative was awarded with first place! She was so excited and I was really happy for her. Thank you for allowing me to attend the parade! Small thanks go to the individual who thought of putting cherries in a cinnamon roll. Pure magic!

After the parade, my family was informed that my father got an eye infection that almost rendered him blind and almost destroyed his eye. He is getting better as of right now but it will take a couple of weeks for him to get his sight back completely. I ask that you pray for him and for his speedy recovery.

With my father being sick and my mother staying at home to take care of him, I made the trip to St. Paul to attend their 2010 coronation. I have a very soft spot in my heart for this rodeo. I love the people and how supportive the town is of the Million Dollar rodeo. It seemed like everyone was there! There were so many new rodeo representatives! I was able to talk to everyone and get to know them. It was also very sad to see the 2009 court had down their crowns. I was able to get to know Ashley Fults during high school rodeo and am so proud at how she has matured into a wonderful woman. All of the ladies should be proud of their titles and their year of service. After the new ladies were crowned it was DANCING time! I had a great time singing along to Shania Twain’s song “I feel like a woman”! Thank you for making the evening so much fun! As a side note… CONGRATULATIONS Amber! I know that you will make a great mother!

The past month has been full of fun times and hard work. I am enjoying everything. I cannot wait till the end of the month when I will be able to ride my new sorrel horse, Nike, in my first rodeo as Miss Rodeo Oregon!
