Pageant Kicks off Friday!
The 2012 Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon and Junior Miss Rodeo Oregon kicks off tommorrow morning. Pageant committee members have been fast at work making the final preparations for this years event.
On June 12, 2011, during the Sisters rodeo, in the beautiful landscape of Central Oregon this years contestants gathered for our Pre-Pageant Orientation at Sister's Highschool in a joint event with our 2012 Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant to take place later this summer at the Canby Rodeo.
Tanya Marie Utberg, former 1996 Miss Rodeo Oregon, has once again outdone herself. She spoke to the contestants, discussed the rulebooks and took each of the girls through each phase of the Pageant. Joining her was MROP Inc. member, Debbie Tupper, whom serves as our Tillamook County Rodeo Committee contact person. Debbie and Tanya discussed the details of grand entry, horsemanship, parking, camping, ect. The girls listened intently as each of their faces shone as bright as the sun. Each of these young girls have started a journey toward a goal, and while only one can walk away with each title, the experience will be rich for all the girls. Its refreshing to see our youth able to participate and wish to represent our western heritage through our MROP, Inc. educational programs.
The Tillamook County rodeo is also celebrating 25 years of rodeo, and will host not only our Pageant but also a reunion for former Miss Tillamook County Royalty, these former ambassadors will be participants in the annual rodeo Parade Saturday morning and a few of the formers will also be seen during the opening act of the 2011 TCR. The rodeo action promises to be exciting as they kick off each performance with the Rodeo Fly Girls, a high-speed professional rodeo drill team, ,many of whom are not strangers to the world of rodeo queens some farther back in past and those also more recent such as 2010 Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon Ariel Overstreet & 2010 St. Paul Princess Kelsey Schmunk. Its hard to find another opening act with as much history and tradition. Look for the girls to come in with their signature entrance, from the bucking chutes! This will then give way for the grand entry serpentine where our contestants can be seen doing arena runs and the serpentine as well!
Friday holds a day of horsemanship in the morning, organized by members Tonya Fodge & Angie Vachter. The girls will then have a lunch break and have time to get those interview outfits on for an afternoon of personal interviews. Friday evening will bring the fashion show: modeling and speeches, as well as a few impromptu questions!
Stay tuned as the action heats up!
